These resources are intended to help readers understand what norms are and how they change. They cover recent thinking that deepens our understanding of social and gender norms, and of what is unique and specific about gender-related norms. They include materials that probe the factors that lead norms to change, and what leads to resistance. Some of these resources are broad-ranging, while others focus on specific themes, sectors and contexts. ALIGN’s History and Change series explores insights about what drives norm change, looking back over a thirty year period.
Case study | History and change
ALIGN's 'history and change' research gathers together qualitative data looking at the impact of harmful gender norms in Uganda, Nepal and Sierra Leone, and investigates how these norms have changed over time.
