Description

Join ODI Global and Equal Measures 20230 for a High-Level Public Dialogue ahead of the Commission on the Status of Women.

Against a backdrop of democratic backsliding and shifting geopolitical alliances, efforts to roll back women’s rights across the world are accelerating at pace, and the need for collective leadership at the multilateral level is more critical than ever.

Compounding this backlash, many critical and influential actors previously committed to gender justice have withdrawn their leadership, including European and North American governments who have shifted to the right and become nervous about geo-political changes. In this context, who will lead on gender rights on the global stage, and how can Member States improve their own multilateral coordination to counter backlash in a meaningful way?

Convened by ODI Global and Equal Measures 2030 (EM2030), this in-person event will bring together leading political figures to discuss how to respond to the concerning trends of slowing gender equality, hosting the EM2030 UK launch of the 2024 SDG Gender Index – which measures progress on gender equality in 139 countries, covering 96% of the world’s women and girls.

Looking ahead to critical global platforms of CSW69 and Beijing+30, this public event will take stock of stalling progress on gender rights and discuss how leaders can work together to change this dispiriting global picture.
